The life of Long Beach, California, native Jenni Rivera is truly a rags to riches story. She grew up in a lower income Mexican-American household, discovered music and eventually rose to superstardom in a genre of Mexican regional music dominated by men. But her life was cut short when she died in a plane crash in December 2012. Rivera’s life, music and legacy is captured in the book, Jenni Rivera: The Diva of Banda written by WBEZ’s own Michael Puente. He joins us to talk about the life and times of Rivera.
