The Peculiar Timing Of Trump’s Dismissal Of FBI Director Comey

President Donald Trump abruptly fired FBI director James Comey on Tuesday. The timing of the decision raised eyebrows on both sides of the aisle since Comey was leading an investigation into possible collusion between Trump campaign officials and Russian operatives.

There are also questions about the reasoning the Trump administration gave for the dismissal. In a letter, the acting deputy attorney general said the decision was a result of Comey’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, events that took place months ago before the presidential election.

To put James Comey’s dismissal in context, Morning Shift talks with Tim Weiner, author of Enemies: A History of the FBI, One Man Against the World: The Tragedy of Richard Nixon, and other books, including the National Book Award winner Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA.
