The pros and cons of interval grading

A few days ago a group of students and parents at Berwyn's Morton West High School were protesting against the current use of interval grading. What is interval grading? It's a form of grading that widens the chance of getting a better grade while reducing the chances of getting an "F". So why the move to institute this alternative?
