For an indie rocker, the “road less traveled” pop music. Over the years, several standout artists have eschewed distortion — or just plain oddness music — and gone with a sound more akin to the Black Eyed Peas of this world than the Sonic Youths. Former Chicagoan Noah Tabakin (tuh-BAH-kihn) has made that turn. His old band, Dead Rider, is on the harsher, and at times scarier tip. His other former band Mucca Pazza comes in one size: extra large and noisy (and awesome!) But Tabakin’s current one-man-band, Ssssnake (pronounce “snake”) is heavy on melody and shine — a blend of pop, soul, hip hop and R&B, yet retains every bit of the character of any of his former bands.
