On Tuesday, the Supreme Court decided to reverse a lower court decision upholding a California law, instead ruling in favor of pro-life pregnancy centers that claimed abortion rights are against free speech. The ruling was 5-4.
Within the fight that pitted the “right to know” versus “the right to free speech” were anti-abortion pregnancy centers, and the state of California, which enacted a law in 2015 aimed at preventing these centers from misleading or misinforming women who visited the centers.
The high court ruled that the California law was a violation of the centers’ First Amendment right to free speech.
