Religion, culture, love and sex come together in Victory Garden Theater’s latest production The Who & The What. Pakistani-American writer Zarina is not only struggling with writer’s block but lost love and questions about what it means to be a female Muslim. She ventures into potentially dangerous territory when her father discovers that her novel questions who and what the Prophet Mohammed really is. Even her very modern younger sister can’t comprehend the ideas in Zarina’s novel, but a young white convert named Eli eventually comes to her support. Morning Shift talks with playwright Ayad Akhtar and Director Ron OJ Parson about the issues underlying The Who & The What. (Photo/Victory Garden Theater)
