It’s not often that we see LGBTQ representation on our television and movie screens. In fact, GLAAD (formerly known as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) reported that only 12.8% of major films included LGBTQ characters in major film releases last year. And none of them included transgender characters.

Two Chicago writers are aiming to fill that gap with their web series called “the T.” It explores the lives of a trans woman and queer Black man in their search for love, sex, & kinship. The Morning Shift chats with the creators about  the inspiration behind the series and the need for LGBTQ representation in media.
