Morning Shift

Violence in American culture

Speaking at an interfaith vigil Sunday evening in Newtown for the victims of the massacre and their families, President Obama said that the nation isn't doing enough to protect children and that "we will have to change." Morning Shift continues its examination of the nation’s culture of violence -- and what can be done to change it -- with a look at the entertainment industry. WBEZ contributors Jim DeRogatis, Milos Stehlik and Kelly Kleiman and DePaul University’s Kelly Kessler dissect the narratives we see in film, music and the arts and how they reflect -- and affect -- our attitudes on violence.
