It’s Friday, and that means it’s time for our Friday news roundup, where we bring context and analysis to the biggest state and local stories in our ever-churning news cycle.

Cook County politics is heating up post-primary this week, as Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s pool of challengers for the 2019 mayoral race got a little bigger, with a Chicago businessman and a former Chicago Public Schools chief throwing their names in the race. Cook County Commissioner Toni Preckwinkle is seeking the Cook County Democratic Party chairmanship now that Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios lost his primary race. And the Chicago Sun Times saw a major redesign and took some jabs at its Tribune rival.

To talk about all of that and more are our panel of journalists: WTTW political reporter Amanda Vinicky, WBEZ’s Michael Puente, and WBEZ political reporter Becky Vevea.
