As the Trump Administration proposes a 25 percent tariff on Chinese imports including car parts and electronics, China has put forth retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports, from whiskey to aircraft. But it’s China’s potential tariffs on corn, pork and soybeans — three of Illinois’ chief exports — that have Illinois farmers worried. Morning Shift talks to Jonathan Coppess, director of University of Illinois’ Agriculture Policy Program, about what the Trump administration’s burgeoning trade war and the farm bill proposed by GOP lawmakers last week could mean for Illinois farmers.
