What happens to older wards of the state?

A Joliet woman is scheduled to appear in a Will County courtroom Wednesday for the murder of her roommate. It’s believed to be the first time since 2009 that a ward of the State of Illinois has been arrested for murder. WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times partnered to take a closer look at the case, and we learn the facts behind the story. We discuss how the state handles older wards and what responsibility they bear as they enter young adulthood. Photo: Flickr/fernandofonseca30
