With the nation in heated debate over gun control regulations coming on the heels of the Parkland, Florida high school shooting that killed 17 people, Illinois is considering several gun-related bills. But changes to the state’s concealed carry laws aren’t likely to get far with some state legislators. Our state’s concealed carry system is unique in the country, allowing gun license applications to be subject to an object-and-review process before granting licenses. But both the Sheriff’s Office and Chicago Police Department say the system is not working as it should.

WBEZ reporter Miles Bryan stops by the Morning Shift to explain how the system works and why people who probably shouldn’t get licenses are able to do so.
