With the nation in heated debate over gun control regulations coming on the heels of the Parkland, Florida high school shooting that killed 17 people, Illinois is considering several gun-related bills. But changes to the state’s concealed carry laws aren’t likely to get far with some state legislators. Our state’s concealed carry system is unique in the country, allowing gun license applications to be subject to an object-and-review process before granting licenses. The system is aimed at expediting licenses for those who qualify, while being able to filter out applicants flagged as potentially dangerous. But both the Sheriff’s Office and Chicago Police Department say the system is not working as it should.
