Joel Kim Booster was adopted from South Korea as a baby and raised by strict, white evangelicals in a quiet Chicago suburb. Those early experiences form the basis for much of his comedy, but there's also a lot of trauma in his past. When he came out as gay, his family wasn't immediately supportive. He tells us how he harnesses his pain to find the laughter.
