2019 is the first time in 20 years that Chicagoans have seen a contested race for city treasurer. No candidate won a majority back in February, so the first- and second-place winners, State Representative Melissa Conyears-Ervin and Ald. Ameya Pawar, 47th Ward, are currently in a runoff.

Pawar, the candidate who finished in a close second, joins us to talk about his vision for the city’s economic future, which includes creating a public bank that would offer low-interest loans to support home-buyers and business owners.

Plus, Pepe Vargas started the Chicago Latino Film Festival in 1985, screening 14 films with a $10,000 budget and an audience of 500. On March 28, Vargas will be kicking off his 35th festival to a sold-out crowd.

This year’s festival will feature a lineup of about 100 films through April 11 at the AMC River East 21 in Streeterville.
