Zeshan Bagewadi’s New Album Filled With Soul

Zeshan Bagewadi’s road to becoming a soul singer is similar to the other greats of the genre like Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin: it started with the records his parents played, and the sacred music he sang on the weekends. Except his parents weren’t African Americans, but immigrants from India. And where he first sang was a mosque, not a church. And despite his classical training—Bagewadi could break out an aria on request—and his love for the devotional qawwali music of his ancestors, he’s following in the footsteps of his heroes Curtis Mayfield and Donny Hathaway.

Zeshan Bagewadi joins us on the eve of his record release party at Chicago’s Untitled Supper Club in honor of his debut solo album “Vetted”.
