American Factory takes viewers to a formerly abandoned General Motors plant near Dayton, Ohio as it’s bought by a Chinese manufacturing company called Fuyao. The film starts as the plant reopens, with local workers on the production lines under Chinese supervisors.
Reset spoke with the film’s co-director about how she explored the deindustrialization of the Midwest, the decline of American unions and the realities facing the global working class through the lens of one Ohio factory.
