The Current State Of Police Accountability In Chicago

Robert Rialmo — the Chicago police officer who fatally shot Quintonio LeGrier and Bettie Jones in December 2015 — has been fired.

The Chicago Police Board voted 7 to zero to fire him at its meeting Thursday night.

Meanwhile, this Sunday marks five years since the fatal police shooting of Chicago teen Laquan McDonald. The police department’s handling of the case sparked a federal investigation into CPD. That eventually led to a consent decree where a federal monitor is charged with making sure court-mandated reforms are made to the way the department operates.

Reset checks in on the state of police accountability in Chicago.
