The Great Debate On Developmental Education: Does It Hurt Or Help Students?

In the fall, nearly two-thirds of students at City Colleges of Chicago were placed below college level either in math or in English. Most of these students were put in developmental or remedial education courses designed to catch them up.

Reset checks in with WBEZ’s Kate McGee on whether these classes are hurting or helping students who are considered underprepared for college — which is at the center of her new audio documentary, “Starting College Behind.”
