Some Chicago Public Schools are the cream of the crop—among the best in the state. But getting into those schools can be harder than getting into college.

On the November edition of Schools on the Line, we posed the question: How well is Chicago’s system for selective enrollment and magnet schools working—and do these schools come at a cost to others?

Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard took questions that touched on equity and fairness across the system. Listeners brought up  “brain drain” from neighbohood schools. They had issues with the tier system and with Chicago Public Schools’ lack of a consistent grading policy.

Brizard was joined by Katie Ellis, the district’s director of student assignment.
