Chance encounters transform characters in stories by authors Elizabeth Graver and Oscar Wilde this week on Stories on Stage.

We revisit two stories presented as part of our 2004 live season on this episode. The first story, “The Selfish Giant,” Oscar Wilde’s fairy tale about a surly giant, was directed by Edward Sobel and read by David Parkes.

“Flirtation,” by author Elizabeth Graver, is the second story. It was one of three stories commissioned for the 2004 Stories on Stage special live event, “Words of Art,” which featured stories inspired by the Gustave Caillebotte Painting, Paris Street, at the Art Institute of Chicago. “Flirtation” was directed by Judy O’Malley and read by Lia Mortensen.

The 2007 live season is now on stage at Steppenwolf Theatre.
