"The Start of It" by Elizabeth McCracken

"The Start of It” by Elizabeth McCracken is a story in which the narrator reminds herself of the simplicity of love through a re-telling of how her parents met.  The story was commissioned by Stories on Stage for its annual special event, "Words of Art", directed by Judy O'Malley.  A photograph by Garry Winogrand of a woman, ice cream cone in hand, laughing in front of a shop window served as inspiration for the story.  McCracken is the author of "Here's Your Hat, What's Your Hurry", "Niagara Falls All Over Again", and "The Giant's House", which was nominated for a National Book Award.

Actress Taylor Miller reads “The Start of It” by Elizabeth McCracken.  This performance was recorded live at the Vittum Theater in Chicago.
