Second City has been a Chicago institution for decades. This week on StoryCorps Chicago, we hear from two performers who started their careers there.

Tim O’Malley teaches improvisation at Second City and directs comedy troupes around town, including Scantron, and FTS 3000.

Tim Kazurinsky was a Second City cast member who went on to Saturday Night Live in the 1980s and a career as a screenwriter and comedic actor.

Earlier this week the two of them came to the StoryCorps booth at the Chicago Cultural Center, where Kazurinsky started the conversation about comedy, theater, and how real life has informed their work.

StoryCorps’ mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to share, record and preserve their stories. These excerpts, edited by WBEZ, present some of our favorites from the current visit, as well as from previous trips.
