StoryCorps Chicago: 'A Name To Be Very Proud Of'
Say the name Marshall Field and what springs to mind? The department store? Its iconic clock on State Street? Or maybe the display windows at Christmastime?
It's also a name that has been passed on through generations of the Field family. Marshall Field V, the great-great grandson of the department store founder, visited the StoryCorps booth at the Chicago Cultural Center with Angelique Power, the president of the Field Foundation. The 76-year-old Field reflected on his family's history and told Power how he once wound up selling encyclopedias door-to-door under an assumed name.
