When a sexual assault occurs in Chicago, among the people who may get a call are Cindy Alvarado and Astrid Tamer. They’re not police officers or doctors; they are trained volunteer medical advocates. Their role is to come, day or night, and sit in the hospital with people after they’ve been assaulted.
