Finnie Rosner is 95 years old, and a resident of the Selfhelp Home in Chicago. In December, she sat down with Jonathan Schwartz as part of our StoryCorps series. Schwartz is director of Jewish life at the retirement community where Rosner lives. He asked her about what life was like during the Anschluss, when Germany took control of Austria in 1938. And they also spoke about Rosner’s memories of happier times.
This interview was facilitated by StoryCorps Chicago’s Rocio Santos. Special thanks to The Selfhelp Home. Bill Healy produces StoryCorps Chicago for WBEZ and teaches journalism at Northwestern University. Follow him @chicagoan.
