Cheryl Miller’s father was a Chicago cab driver. When he got sick, Miller got her chauffeur’s license and started driving her dad’s taxi. Now she’s done it for two decades, enough time that she’s seen the industry change dramatically. A few weeks ago Miller came by the StoryCorps booth with fellow cabdriver Ezz Abdelmagid. The two of them talked about their work toward a union for Chicago cab drivers and job satisfaction.

StoryCorps’ mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to share, record and preserve their stories. These excerpts, edited by WBEZ, present some of our favorites from the current visit, as well as from previous trips.
