Richard Steele narrates this nationally-distributed documentary on Sam Cooke's life and music. Sam Cooke grew up on the South Side of Chicago and first made his mark in the world of Gospel music during the 1950s. Cooke eventually moved into pop music, becoming a huge crossover success and laying the foundation for 60s soul music along the way. His music helped provide the soundtrack for the Civil Rights movement, and with his classic song “A Change is Gonna Come,” Cooke gave the movement one of its greatest anthems. This documentary traces the way in which the trajectory of Cooke's remarkable career paralleled the rising tides of the Civil Rights Era.
