How well do digital fitness trackers work?

The smartwatch boom is coming. Apple, Google and others are hoping wearable technology on our wrists will be the next tech accessory we can’t live without. Right now the major players in the wearable technology game are mostly fitness trackers: FitBit, Nike’s Fuelband and Jawbone are among the most popular wrist monitors that promise to measure and display real-time info on everything from how much you’re moving to how well you’re sleeping. There’s even one of these for kids: LeapFrog, the educational toy company, has just announced “LeapBand”, the kid-friendly version of a fitness band. Jim McDannald is a doctor and a college track coach, who also writes about health and fitness technology for He’s tested out just about every digital fitness tracker tool on the market and he joins us to talk about their effectiveness and what's coming up for the industry.
