Infrared and x-ray technology led curators and conservators at the Art Institute of Chicago to discover some new works by the artist Rene Magritte. You may know there’s a major Magritte exhibition that’s on right now at the museum. It includes one of the artist’s most iconic works, Time Transfixed, that’s the painting of the train coming out of the fireplace. Art Institute Conservator Allison Langley joins us to talk about the technology behind art restoration and conservation, and how it all happened with Time Transfixed and what she found underneath it.
