Vocalo's Barber Shop Show

Future of Chicago

This week on the Barber Shop Show... A few months back, New York Times survey found that many Chicagoans have “lost faith in [our] essential institutions, including the police, courts, and the public schools”. Meanwhile, census data shows that Chicago is truly becoming a tale of two cities. But what does all of this mean for residents’ quality of life? We talked about the data, and about the future of Chicago with guests: • Stephen Serio, photographer and multimedia journalist who produced a video on the Future of Chicago for Crain’s • Dr. Michael Maly, is Director of the Policy Research Collaborative (PRC) and Associate Professor of Sociology at Roosevelt University. • Aloysius Cooper, recent graduate from Fenger High School in Roseland • Caprice Williams, a mother and an hourly worker based in Englewood. Also, we spoke with Hyde Park Art Center about their program, Not Just Another Pretty Face, which allows the Art Center to play matchmaker for artists and potential art buyers. We were joined by: • Deputy Director of the Hyde Park Art Center Hilesh Patel • Patric McCoy, Art Patron and co-founder of Diasporal Rhythms • Local multimedia artist RJ Eldridge The Barber Shop Show airs live on Fridays at Noon on Vocalo 91.1FM.
