According to Brigid Sweeney’s recent report for Crain’s Chicago Business, “The second-highest-grossing shopping district in the city is a 2-mile stretch of 26th Street… in predominantly Mexican-American Little Village.” The first highest is Michigan Avenue. So what makes the strip unique? To talk about 26th Street, host Richard Steele was joined by: • Brigid Sweeney, retail reporter for Crain’s Chicago Business • Manuel Martinez, a photographer/videographer at Crain’s who contributed to Brigid’s story. Then, we heard from WBEZ’s Rob Wildeboer, who has been attending Chicago’s aldermanic budget hearings. Earlier this week, during those hearings, a group of aldermen demanded that Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy be fired. The city has seen a 21 percent increase in murders this year; though according to the Associated Press, the trend is being seen nationally. The Barber Shop Show airs on Fridays and Saturdays at Noon on Vocalo 91.1FM. In addition, the show broadcasts on Sundays at 3pm on WBEZ 91.5FM.
