The film and television industry here in Chicago has seen a remarkable uptick in activity. Just like in Hollywood, in some areas, it can be a challenge to avoid closures caused by filming. On this week’s Barber Shop Show, we ask local filmmakers and actors if Hollywood’s famous lack of diversity plays out on the Chicago film scene, too. On this installment, host Richard Steele was at the shop with: • Local actor Cedric Young • Wandachristine, local actress and voiceover talent • Margaret Caples, executive director of the Community Film Workshop • Tony G. Williams, up-and-coming filmmaker Plus, we hear some tape from a minority filmmakers’ roundtable discussion Richard was invited to earlier this year. The Q & A session was part of a larger event held at Chicago’s Cinespace Studio by E.N.D. Productions. The Barber Shop Show airs on Fridays and Saturdays at Noon on 90.7FM, 89.5FM, and 91.1FM. You can also stream live at vocalo.org. In addition, the show broadcasts on Sundays at 3pm on WBEZ 91.5FM.
