On this installment of the Barber Shop Show, we heard about the Alvin Ailey Revelations Residency. The residency uses the dance legend’s life and his signature work, “Revelations”, as a tool for teaching kids about dance, language arts and social studies. We heard from: • Nasha Thomas, National Director of Ailey Camps Plus, we heard about Barbara Sizemore Academy, an Englewood charter school that has petitioned the State of Illinois to stay open, despite being on the CPS chopping block. For that conversation, we heard from: · Sarah Karp, WBEZ Education Reporter · Dr. Carol Lee, chair of the Board of Directors at the Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools, · Alvin Boutee, Jr. Board Treasurer for the Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools, and · David Steiner, filmmaker and educator who’s been working with students at Barbara Sizemore Academy on a documentary.
