Can you eat all of your food and drinks spending only $5 a day? This installment of the Barber Shop Show focused on the SNAP Challenge & new changes in benefits allowed under SNAP (also known as Food Stamps). The SNAP Challenge invites journalists, policy makers, and community leaders to live off of the approximate daily amount of food stamp benefits per person ($5 in Illinois). Barber Shop Show host Richard Steele was joined by WBEZ’s Natalie Moore and Monica Eng, as well as Laura Washington of the Chicago Reporter, who all attempted the SNAP Challenge. Plus, a shop customer weighs in on a law that aims to cut SNAP benefits by 40 Billion dollars. They also talked about the newly announced plans for a modified Whole Foods in Englewood, and how SNAP figures in. Plus, we’ll learn about Growing Home, an urban farming organization in Englewood that provides organic produce and job training for the community. The Barber Shop Show airs Fridays at Noon on http://vocalo.org/ 89.5fm and 90.7fm.
