On this installment of the Barber Shop Show, we talked about Maria Zamudio’s article in the latest issue of The Chicago Reporter, titled “Speedy Removal”. The article details issues of Deportation and Immigration, specifically the fact that the US Government is bypassing judicial hearings in an attempt to swiftly deport thousands of immigrants each year. We were joined by the following guests: Maria Zamudio of the Chicago Reporter Mark Fleming, litigation coordinator for the National Immigrant Justice Center. We also heard from Linda Hernandez, whose husband is currently detained. She shared her family’s story. Later in the show, we got an update from WBEZ Northside Bureau Reporter Odette Yousef. She talked about her recent work that details issues of under-age, unaccompanied immigrants. We also hear her recent audio piece. Additionally, we got an update on current immigration reform legislation.
