Recently, Elaine Hegwood-Bowen joined us here at the shop to talk about the Englewood community as it was back in the 1960s and 1970s. In that conversation, Elaine talked about the racism she dealt with as a black student at nearly all-white Gage Park High School. We received a number of calls on our feedback hotline about that program; but one in particular caught our attention. We’ll hear a powerful excerpt of that call. Plus, sex trafficking of children remains an issue in Chicago; and the new play “Shadow Town II The Johns” focuses on the demand side. Playwright and Director Mary Bonnett joined us at the shop. We were also be joined (via phone) by NBC5’s Marion Brooks who has been covering sex trafficking and prostitution in our community for some time. Lastly, Hermene Hartman & Monroe Anderson weighed in on the results of midterm elections, including Rauner’s victory over Quinn. They also discussed what all of this means looking forward to 2016, particularly in the Black community. The Barber Shop Show airs on Fridays and Saturdays at Noon on 90.7FM, 89.5FM, and 91.1FM.
