10-11-11: CTA budget, NBA lockout, Chicago ERs

The Chicago Transit Authority cut more than 200 jobs, the agency announced on Monday.  The move comes as the CTA is preparing to release its 2012 budget.  The CTA is also revising its sick and vacation policies, according to a released statement. The CTA said the cuts will save about $22 million annually.

Suburban governments are turning to the Illinois General Assembly to force utility provider ComEd to provide better response to widespread power outages.

President Barack Obama said on Tuesday he is prepared to break his jobs bill into pieces and try to move it that way, hours before the measure faced likely defeat at the hands of Republican senators opposed to stimulus spending and a tax surcharge on millionaires, the AP reports.
