A quick look at Rush Medical Center's new building

It's early yet, but the new Rush Medical Center building nearing completion on Ashland Avenue on the south edge of the Eisenhower Expressway is shaping up to be a good-looking building.

The 14-story, $654 million addition to the Rush campus cuts a fine figure at street level with all that glass and geometry.

The five bedtower above--the part that looks set to be spun like the rotors on a kid's toy helicopter--will hold 340 patients.

The base will include response center with 56 treatment bays that can handle everything from bioterrorism attacks to infection disease outbreaks, according to the hospital.

The hospital is the work architects Perkins & Will's Chicago office. The building is expected to open in January.
