Chicagoans are finding their own way to celebrate the royal wedding Friday morning.

At the Globe Pub in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood, it was standing room only. The bar is usually known as a soccer bar, but patrons brought out its romantic side when the doors opened at 4 a.m.

“Well, it’s the royal wedding! Hello?” said Lisa Fusek, who showed up wearing formal attire. “We only have one of these once in a while. You might as well celebrate.”

The bartenders were busy pouring mimosas for the early morning crowd. But once the ceremony started, the crowd quieted and grew more attentive.

“This is my history. This is my monarchy. I’m a true royalist. I’m a huge fan,” said Colleen Dyer, who said she’s originally from England. “So, yeah. It means an awful lot to me. And it means a lot to me that people in America are interested in it as well.”

Dyer said she moved to Chicago 30 years ago, right before Charles and Diana married.

But the main thing on everyone’s mind was the wedding dress of the bride, Kate Middleton.

“Oh, the dress,” said Lisa Smith. “It’s all about the dress.”

The reviews were kind from Heidi Letzmann.

“It’s gorgeous,” she said. “It’s gorgeous. She truly looks like a princess. It’s very classic.”
