Friday Foodie Forecast: Fishy feasts and free meals

In honor of the holiday season, enjoy a "Feast of the Seven Fishes" at a pair of local restaurants, or just donate a new toy for Children's Memorial Hospital, and get a free meal.

Give a Toy, Get a Free Meal at Wow Bao
Wow Bao's State & Lake and Jackson locations  will treat you to a free lunch or dinner, in exchange for the donation of a new children's toy during the holiday season. The offer ends December 23, and the toy donations will be brought to Children's Memorial Hospital. All toys should be presented in their original packaging and should not be gift wrapped. Wow Bao State & Lake is on the NW corner of that intersection; the other location is at 175 W. Jackson Blvd.

Feast of the Seven Fishes at Nana
Celebrate the holidays with a seven-course prix fixe menu of fish in honor of the Feast of the Seven Fishes at Nana on December 23rd. The dinner, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., will feature dishes such as butter-poached conway cup oyster with leek spaghetti, tomato powder and parsley oil; "stuffed" Prince Edward Island scallop in the shell with bacon, winter spinach and cream; and shrimp-stuffed ravioli with chestnuts, red and yellow cipollini and winter squash. Reservations are required, and tickets are $50 ($90 with cocktail pairings). To reserve your spot, call 312-929-2486. Nana is located at 3267 S. Halsted Street.

Feast of the Seven Fishes at Osteria via Stato
Join Osteria via Stato's Executive Chef David DiGregorio for a four-course meal inspired by his family's traditions on December 23rd. Dishes on the menu include lobster bisque with a baccala spread crostini; grilled baby octopus with roasted potatoes; and pistachio-crusted whitefish with fennel salad. Tickets to the event are $38.95 per person, and the a la carte menu will also be available. To reserve your spot, call 312-642-8450, or visit for more information.
