Sometimes, a picture is all you need. Just look at those luscious, creamy, super-rich scoops above. There’s a reason Homer’s has been a fixture in Wilmette for the past 75 years, and one of the main reasons is consistency and quality. They don’t take shortcuts, they offer great value for your money and they do it all with a smile. I was introduced to this North Shore legend in the mid-90s, and it’s clear why people remain so loyal. The product is rich (about 14% - 16% butterfat, technically a “super premium” ice cream) but it’s not cloying, and it doesn’t overwhelm your tongue and throat.

Dean Poulos took over from his father years ago, and he’s in the process of handing the business down to his son. Poulos has overseen a steady expansion, into Whole Foods and some local restaurants, as well as a brisk online business. here are several reasons to make a visit up to Green Bay Road. A few that come to mind: peach, prairie berry, coffee toffee and peppermint. But you’ll have to decide for yourself, and then get a pint or two to take home, because this stuff doesn’t last long.
