Chicago will join San Francisco and New York as the third American city to have its own Michelin guide, the company announced today. The prestigious guide will publish the Chicago edition in November, making it the 25th city to be covered by Michelin.

Michelin’s worldwide director Jean-Luc Naret said that Chicago was an obvious choice for the next Michelin edition. “The diversity, breadth and depth Chicago’s restaurant and hotel scene, coupled with its rich gastronomic history clearly mark the city and surrounding areas as the logical choice for the next North American title in the Michelin guide series,” Naret said in a news release.

Chicago’s chefs can already begin their anxious hand-wringing. The anonymous and exacting Michelin inspectors have been dining in the city for the past two years to create their reviews and are currently still conducting inspections of hotels and restaurants. Until November, though, Chicago will have to hold its breath and speculate as to who will receive the coveted stars.
