1. 20% Chicago, a theater troupe which aims to raise the profile of women in theater, has brought us  Electra & Orestes. They call the production a “devised re-imagining of Sophocles’ tragedy,” and it’s at the Evanston Arts Depot weekends through May 22.

2. The Joffrey Ballet presents Rising Stars, which will run this weekend through next. It will feature the pieces Bells and Woven Dreams, both of which will be in their World Premiere. Relatedly, WBEZ’s Laura Molzahn last looked at the Joffrey in February, for their production of The Merry Widow.

3. Jay and Silent Bob are live tonight at the Harris Theater at 8 pm in their traveling show Jay and Silent Bob Get Old. Relive the 90s and your excessive love of Kevin Smith films and see how much they’ve changed.

4. Spring Awakening is in Chicago for one week only, and this is the final weekend to catch it here, unless you want to go traveling with it. The musical moved from Off-Broadway to Broadway in New York, and went on to win several Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It also launched the television careers of young stars Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff of Glee. You won’t see those two on the tour of Spring Awakening (they’re big shots now!) but you will see lots of other fresh faces who could be the next big thing.

5. There’s been a lot of talk about The Original Grease and how much “grittier” it is than the more popular movie-musical version. Now, I’m a fan of the film — where else can you see a 34 year old Stockard Channing playing high schooler Betty Rizzo? — but the positive reviews keep rolling in. The work that went into creating an accurate vision of Chicago during mid-century sounds impressive, to say the least. Watch the video below and see for yourself.
