Former Chicago Police Superindendent Jody Weis was paid for his unused vacation. The total? Over $70k. Man, I do not work in the right place. If I left right now, I don’t think I’d be entitled to squat. I’d be lucky to get a tote bag and a used Capitol Steps CD…

Who wants $70k when you can have this classic?

B story: No way. NO WAY! Feder has the scoop: Randy Michaels is buying WLUP (97.9) and Q101 from Emmis Communications. A comeback in the Chicago market? I love it. Perfect timing, as the Sun-Times and Tribune both jettison their long-time media columnists, the most notorious media mogul reappears. The story is that Michaels wants to make Q-101 all news/talk, making it the only commercial news/talk format on the FM dial. It also creates a new competitor for public radio, 91.5FM. This is the biggest story in Chicago media since, well, Michaels got bounced at the Trib.

Oh my, this is just sublime!!!!!!!!!!

Losers in this: Emo kids and the other 27 people that listen to Q101.

C story: The Blizzard of ‘11 may be in our rear-view mirror, but the city of Chicago is still thinking about it. They put out a big report yesterday about what went right and what went wrong during the freakish snow storm this past February. I still can’t figure out if the report was critical or supportive of the city’s blizzard efforts. It’s almost right down the middle. I guess if you were going to have a city report done by city people, you want to cover all the asses, bases.

D story: Red Bull Riot Fest. Awesome.

F story: Hey, look who’s on the front page of the iTunes’ podcast page? Our video with Arcade Fire.

Weather: Today is the longest day of the year. So add a couple items to the ole’ to-do list.

Sports: Go Cubbies! Big win and Ozzie freaks out. I didn’t realize this, but there’s some chatter about Ozzie and the Florida Marlins head coaching job. So maybe the theatrics (and the drop kick) were an attempt to remind Chicago fans why the Sox should keep or get rid of Ozzie.

The Bulls get ready for the NBA Draft. And Sam Smith utterly confuses us on what might happen. Awesome and mind bending at the same time. Here’s hoping the Bulls take one of those Butler kids. Wait, are they even in the draft this year? It’s just a bunch of Duke players, correct?

Kicker: Today, the FDA is announcing new messaging and visuals on all cigarette and tobacco products. They aren’t pretty. In other smoking news, NYC is outlawing smoking in public parks. I learned the news from my favorite news source, the Daily Show. Here is the piece, which is politically incorrect and just plain brilliant. It does beg the question for Chicago: In which park do drug addicts congregate?
