Good morning!

Welcome to this edition of the Morning Drive Podcast!  In this episode, we’ll look back at the DNC.

But first, some news:

His re-election in doubt, President Barack Obama conceded only halting progress Thursday night toward fixing the nation’s stubborn economic woes, but vowed in a Democratic National Convention finale, “Our problems can be solved, our challenges can be met.”

When the ceiling in dorm ‘E’ fell in on Sunday at Vandalia prison, 88 prisoners were moved to the gym where there are only two toilets.Walter Mikolajczyk says the gym is a miserable place to live. He says “there’s no windows in the gym” and it’s like a dungeon and two toilets are definitely not enough.

Featured in the podcast:

►WBEZ’s intrepid convention reporters wrapped up their reporting last night at the DNC, so we celebrate their hard work with two stories: One from Alex Keefe about some of the interesting people milling about the conventions, and another from Tony Arnold about the gay marriage debate and its impact on the Democrats’ platform.

And your WEATHER for today:Kinda gloomy out, with scattered showers and thunderstorms and highs in the mid 70s. Tonight, cloudy skies with more rain likely.  Lows into the fifties. Then clearing up for the weekend, with mostly sunny skies tomorrow and highs in the lower 70s on both Saturday and Sunday.Monday, more of the same— mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid seventies.  Not too bad.

And the music in today’s podcast brought to you by TV on the Radio. The New York Times compiled a list of playlists that inspire some of the top designers at New York Fashion week (which kicked off yesterday) so we borrowed one of Tracy Reese’s favorite tracks. (You know, the designer of Michelle Obama’s brocade convention dress.)
