Two men who say they were tortured by Chicago police under Jon Burge are in line for more than $7 million in payouts, and former Mayor Richard Daley will be spared from testifying under oath about the scandal, as part of two legal settlements a City Council Committee approved Monday.

According to new state data, the lines for favorite tourist attractions around Illinois were longer this year. Illinois’ tourism industry generated about $32 billion in revenue in 2011, the highest on record, according to figures released on Monday by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

And your WEATHER for today: There’s a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9am this morning, so be careful while commuting this morning. It looks as if the hardest parts of the storm will hit Chicago between 6 and 7 am. Otherwise, it should be cloudy until late afternoon then becoming partly sunny. widespread showers and thunderstorms through mid morning then showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. Some winds, and a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Later Thursday night, there will only be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight, lows in the lower 70s.

Wednesday, it should clear up, partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then mostly sunny in the afternoon. highs in the upper 90s.
