►Summer after summer, year after year, Chicago is consumed by violence. As part of our Long Hot Summer series, we explore the grief behind the numbers--the survivors left to cope with loss. Yesterday, Steve Edwards spoke on the Afternoon Shift with Pamela Hester Jones, whose son Lazarus, was beaten to death five years ago. Counselor Katherine Saclarides and Father David Kelly, who both work with families like Pamela’s, also talk about what life is like for communities coping with the realities of Chicago’s violent streets. Jones talks about what her son Lazarus was like.
