Listen to Tony Sarabia interview Ugochi and A.S.E.

Ugochi and A.S.E, a favorite of host Tony Sarabia (he plays them on his show Radio M often) joined us on this rainy Friday morning. Ugochi, who is from Nigeria, performed songs from her latest album Afro Soul Effect, which she describes as a new sound they’re creating. Ugochi’s sound isn’t entirely new though; she told Sarabia about an incident a few days ago, when her mother mistook the singing of Lauryn Hill for her own daughter’s.

Ugochi (whose last name is Nwaogwugwu) and her band, made up of Shawn Wallace (keyboards/vocals), Deshon Newman (percussion), Jeff Harris (bass) and Justin Boyd (drums) will perform Friday night as part of a Women of the World event at Mayne Stage in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.
