It’s time for another edition of Weekend Passport, where we help you find a way to experience another country without having to buy a plane ticket.

Global citizen Nari Safavi helps us plan a weekend with a multiethnic array of theater, dance and comedy.

First up, Pilsen’s Collectivo El Pozo presents Los Carralejas. After finding their niche in Chicago, four short-story writers fell into the world of theater. Playwright Raul Dorantes directs a new play that explores a kidnapping in Mexico. The performance will be in Spanish with English subtitles. It plays tonight at 8:00pm at Teatro de la Villita located at 2950 W. 25th Street.

Next, This is Tango Now is the lovechild of musician and anthropologist Alfredo Minetti and world-renown dancers Fernandi Ghi and Guillermo Merlo. This innovative team took the traditional tango of the past and brought it up to speed with six acclaimed Argentine dancers. This is Tango Now happens tonight and tomorrow at 7:00pm at Mayne Stage in Roger’s Park. Doors open at 5:30. General admission tickets are $23.00.

Last but not least, Egyptian-born comedian Ahmed Ahmed is in Chicago. Many people know him from his Axis of Evil tour and his poking fun at our view of terrorists. His new movie, Just Like Us, received tons of praise at the Tribeca Film Festival in Doha. He’s performing this weekend at The Laugh Factory.

Happy travels!
