Finding consensus on health care and figuring out how to move forward in Afghanistan are two of the major issues on President Obama’s agenda. And they’re not the only ones. The day-to-day reality of his presidency has in one short year brought Obama a long way from the heady days surrounding his history-making election. The confluence of events and emotions that would bring him to the White House set journalist Charles Madigan on his own quest. Only Madigan was interested in sniffing out the ordinary people behind the headline making – but frequently overplayed – political race. That search is documented in his new book, Destiny Calling: How the People Elected Barack Obama.
